Frequently asked questions

Practical information about key cutting, car keys, condo fobs and visiting the shop.

Visiting and pricing

Do I need to bring the original?

Bring your original key, working fob or remote for assessment. For car keys, call first with the vehicle year, make and model and tell us whether you have a working key.

How much does a copy cost?

The price depends on the key blank, fob technology or remote model and any programming required. See what to have ready for a quote, or call the shop.

Where is FobRightNow?

The shop is at 40 Kodiak Crescent, Unit 5, North York, ON M3J 3G5. View hours and directions.

Do I need an appointment?

Call to check service availability and arrangements before your visit, especially for car keys or specialised access systems.

Key cutting

Can you cut a house or mailbox key?

We offer key cutting for a range of everyday metal keys. Bring your original so we can check the profile, blank and service availability.

What about high-security or restricted keys?

These depend on the key system and any authorisation requirements. Call with the brand or code on your key before visiting; availability is assessed individually.

Can you work from a broken or worn key?

Call to describe the damage first. Whether a usable copy can be made depends on the key’s condition and the information available.

What is the price?

The key profile and work involved determine the price. Call the shop for a quote or bring your original for an assessment.

Car key duplication

Do you work on my make and model?

Call with the vehicle year, make and model. Available key and programming options vary between vehicles, and sometimes between trims of the same model.

Does the vehicle need to be at the shop?

Some services require access to the vehicle. Call first so we can confirm the arrangements for your particular key and vehicle.

Can I get a key if I have lost every key?

Tell us that you do not have a working key when you call. We need to assess the vehicle and service requirements before confirming whether we can help.

Does a quote include programming?

Ask for the complete service quote, including the key, any blade cutting and any programming. The work required depends on the vehicle.

Condo fob copying

Can every fob be copied?

No single method works for every access system. We check compatibility before confirming whether your fob can be copied.

Can you copy a fob using only a photograph?

A photograph can help identify a fob, but appearance alone does not confirm that a working copy can be made. Contact the shop and be prepared to bring the original.

Will a copy add access to other doors?

A duplicate does not grant new permissions. Contact building management for access changes or an original credential if your access has been revoked.

Do you copy access cards too?

Ask about your access card when you call. The available service depends on the technology and the building’s system.

Garage remotes

Can you copy my garage remote?

Call with the brand and model, or bring the original for an assessment. Availability depends on the remote and the access system.

What about parking tags?

We accept enquiries for supported parking tags. Tell us what you have so we can check compatibility before confirming the service.

Can I get a remote if mine is lost?

Let us know before visiting. Some systems require an existing working remote or involvement from the building or garage-system manager.

Does a copy include the tap function too?

If your remote also works as a tap-to-enter fob, mention both functions. We need to assess each one and confirm what the quoted service includes.

Parking tags

Can every parking tag be copied?

No. The tag technology and building system affect what is possible. Call with the brand and details on your tag for an assessment.

Should I remove a tag from my windshield?

Call first. Some tags are intended to stay attached, and removing one may damage it. The shop can tell you what to bring for your enquiry.

Is a parking tag the same as a condo fob?

Not always. A parking tag may be read from a distance, while a condo fob is usually held near a reader. Describe both functions if your credential serves more than one entrance.
